The HLS distinctives are best encapsulated in three words—classical, Christian, and traditional. Our approach to education centers on the learning of classical languages and texts, anchors itself to the essentials of the Christian faith, and maintains the still unsurpassed learning environment that is the teacher-guided classroom.
At HLS North Baltimore, we proudly utilize the award-winning curricula developed by Memoria Press. Stamped on all of their books is the motto “Docere, Delectare, Movere”—in English, “to teach, to delight, to move.” It is their ambition as well as ours to make education not only the provision of instruction, but also a delight and a mobilizing force to those instructed. With the wonderful tools provided by Memoria Press in hand, HLS North Baltimore aims to provide inspired instruction and so to engender a love for the good, the true, and the beautiful in each and every student.
HLS North Baltimore meets each Monday throughout the standard academic year (Aug–May), and offers Latin, classical studies, literature, and composition for students in grades 3–12. Group instruction is provided in the classroom on Mondays with parents providing individual, focused direction the remainder of week. Class size is kept to a minimum to increase participation and ensure that each student enjoys the benefit afforded by a high level of personalized attention.
